Concert Review: Big Time Rush makes a stop in Charlotte for the “Can’t Get Enough Tour”

By: Haley May

Big Time Rush’s “Can’t Get Enough Tour” stopped in Charlotte, NC at PNC Music Pavilion on June 26, 2023. The band was joined by openers Jax and MAX.

I had been counting down the days since this show was announced. A dream lineup for me, as I’ve been a fan of MAX and Big Time Rush for over a decade now and I’ve loved watching Jax grow on Tiktok.

Jax started the show off with a high energy and earned screams from fans as she made her way across the stage smiling and waving at them. She of course played the crowd favorite “Victoria’s Secret” but also kept fans singing along when she covered “Teenage Dirtbag”. She seemed so happy to be on the stage which definitely reflected in her performance and kept fans wanting more.

I’ve seen MAX live several times throughout the years so I knew he would put on a good show, but it was extra special to see him perform in front of the biggest crowd yet. Watching him go from radio station events to now at an amphitheater in front of 19 thousand fans has been the joy of a lifetime. Watching MAX take the stage with his touring band - Ryan on bass, Ichi Tanabe on drums, and Michael Cody Dear on the saxophone - immediately put a smile on my face. They were full of energy and great at pulling from the crowd. Starting the set with “Love Me Less” was the perfect choice in my opinion. During the song, I looked over to see MAX’s wife Emily with their daughter dancing side stage, it completely warmed my heart. Transitioning into his song “Holla” Max had the crowd jumping up and down. Fans of Big Time Rush that were maybe not as familiar with MAX, were all singing along once MAX began to sing “Someday”’ from his Nickelodeon movie Rags. Some favorites of the set for me were “Blueberry Eyes”, “Satisfied”, and “Lights Down Low”. Ending his set with “Mugshot”, MAX announced he would be meeting fans by the merch booth. Soon enough the surrounding area would be crowded with fans hoping to get a glimpse of him, it seemed as if he was not prepared for how many fans would stop by. He made sure to make his way through saying hi and thanking as many as possible while staying safe. If you’re able to catch MAX on tour I highly suggest doing so, as he is only going to continue to grow (and it is well deserved).

MAX’s setlist:

Love Me Less
Holla
Acid Dreams
Someday/Me & You Against the World
Blueberry Eyes
Strings
Satisfied
Lights Down Low
Mugshot

To finish the night off strong, Big Time Rush took the stage. As they rose to the stage the crowd roared, ready for the night ahead of them. They made sure to have meaningful interactions with fans and thanked them for their support multiple times throughout the show. They brought fans on stage for their song “Worldwide Girl”’ where every fan not on stage was left wishing they were. But to make sure no one was left out, the band went through the crowd singing with fans as they went and eventually stopped to finish the song from the crowd. The “Can’t Get Enough Tour” is one not to be missed, as all of these artists put on incredible sets that leave you wanting more.
