Labrinth Returns with Dreamy Single “Never Felt So Alone”

By: Erin Corcoran

As a songwriter, producer, and composer, Labrinth––known for creating the soundtrack for the hit HBO show Euphoria and the single “Jealous”––is no stranger to releasing music that feels authentic to him. His latest single “Never Felt So Alone” was initially released in a special episode of Euphoria, but it did not take long to gain popularity on TikTok.

“Never Felt So Alone” only runs for 2 minutes and 40 seconds, but it immediately captures the listener's attention. Along with Labrinth, we are introduced to Billie Eilish’s backing vocals which effortlessly flow and intertwine with his own vocals. In his signature dreamy style, Labrinth creates an atmosphere that feels like the listener is slipping in and out of consciousness with the song. Focusing on the instrumentals throughout the track, we hear Labrinth and Eilish repeat the lyrics, “And I never felt so alone,” almost like a mantra.

Eilish eventually breaks out on her own, singing in a melancholy tone: “I thought you were my new best friend / Wish I knew better then / Who knew you were out to get me?” In both of their vocals, the listener can feel their sense of longing and despair. In Eilish’s verse, in particular, there is a perception of heartbreak and betrayal by whoever was her friend. Aside from the minimalist lyrics, we are treated to a blend of unique sounds that fit perfectly for a Labrinth track. The song's push and pull will keep listeners locked in for the entire piece.

“Never Felt So Alone” is an official single from Labrinth’s upcoming album Ends & Begins; the official release date has yet to be announced. In addition to the single came an accompanying music video featuring the two collaborating artists. The brilliant combination of their vocals is fascinating to listen to, and seamlessly carries you from beginning to end.
